This landmark dramatic musical grows out of a captivating story set in 1905. When a touring musical family finds no place to go for Christmas, they return to their grandparents' farm in Minnesota. There they are forced to deal with longstanding conflicts. In the process they learn the importance of following God's unique direction for their lives. New songs and familiar carols are woven together with a turn-of-the-century flavor appropriate for the era.

The theme of Four Tickets to Christmas is most simply stated in the second stanza of the pivotal song, “Exactly As I Am”:

He came in straw and swaddling;

He came in poverty.

He did not come in strength or might

But helpless infancy

And now I know He came this way,

So I could understand

That He will always love me

Exactly as I am.

Jesus Christ calls all men to himself.  He desires a relationship with each of us, regardless of circumstance—rich, poor, young, old, strong, weak.  His love will conquer any sin, any shortcoming, any failing.  And one of our great assurances that Christ will accept us into His kingdom “exactly as we are” is the way He came into our world—poor, common, a helpless infant.  There is no earthly treasure or achievement that will win eternity for us; nothing we can do will ever make us worthy of Jesus; love and sacrifice.  He only asks for our faith, our love, our acceptance.  As we look at the manger, we should be reminded that God chose to be born among us in our lowest state;  He would eventually die the most cruel of human deaths, all so we could share eternity with Him.
