Jessica Peele's Bio

Hello there! My name is Jessica Peele and I am so excited to be partnering with Lynsey Pierce as we join together to bring back a preschool at Willmar Assembly of God church next school year.  It is my prayer that we are able to provide an awesome ministry to our community through the love of Christ, a strong education, and loving your whole child.

I grew up on a farm near Sacred Heart with my parents, two sisters, and one brother.  My dad, Dan, has farmed his whole life and took over our family farm many years ago.  My mom, Rhonda, spent time raising all four of us kids, worked as a Para in the MACCRAY school district, and most recently, helps my dad out on the farm.  I was very blessed growing up in a home where we did devotions together as a family, prayed together, and praised God through our joys and difficult times.

Growing up, my family attended Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City where my family was very active in being a part of the praise team and youth groups.  I am so thankful for a church that knew the importance of missions and helping the community.  It was through my youth group that I really began to grow in my faith and seek what God’s plan was for my life and how He could use me.

I have known my entire life that I wanted to be a teacher.  Between babysitting, playing school with my siblings, and constantly asking questions, I knew that God had called me and given me the tools to be a teacher.

After graduating from Renville County West High School, I attended Dordt College for 1 ½ years where I was able to get a great base for Christian education.  I transferred to Minnesota State University Moorhead and found my home in my education classes.  While in college, I spent hours observing classrooms at varying grades and teaching styles.  I was fortunate to have fabulous professors who encouraged us to spend more time in other classrooms than sometimes their own so that we could experience what teaching really was.

While in college and then for two years after, I ran an After School Program through the YMCA before moving to North Carolina to begin my teaching career.  I taught 3rd grade for one year before teaching 4th grade for the next three years.  God blessed me immensely through my time in NC and pushed me further than I thought I was capable of moving. I was teaching at a low income, Title One school where loving the whole child and meeting their basic needs was required before learning.  God gave me a mama heart and a love for meeting kids at their needs.  It was only then that I could become a great teacher.

For the last five years, I have been the 5th grade teacher at Community Christian School here in Willmar.  Having the opportunity to share with my students devotions, prayer, Bible studies and discussions on our faith has pushed me to grow in my faith.  Teaching Math, Science, Social Studies, and Bible has pushed me to grow as a teacher.

My teaching styles have varied over the years depending on what subjects, grades, and ability levels my students are at.  Although I tend to lean more toward teacher-led instruction, I understand the importance in student-led learning.  As I’ve taught mainly upper elementary classes where my main content was Math, there are times when I need to lecture because I am teaching new content.  But, there are many times when the students are able to learn best through exploring, making mistakes, and learning from them.

My wonderful husband, Marc, and I have been living here in Willmar for the past 4 years and have been blessed with our 2-year-old son, Jase, and are expecting another little boy in April.  As our family grows, it has made me really look toward a quality, Christ-centered education that we can provide for our kids.  I am so excited to begin this journey at Children’s Corner and can’t wait to meet your Preschooler!
