Hello! My name is Lynsey Pierce and I am so thankful for the opportunity to be re-starting this ministry with Willmar Assembly of God church and Jessica Peele. I hope that in sharing a little about myself you may come to understand my love for the Lord, children and education!
I grew up in between Spicer and Kandiyohi on my family’s dairy farm. I was raised to Praise Jesus in all things and to know that through Him anything is possible. My mother, father, 2 sisters and myself worked hard each day to care for the animals and land God entrusted to us and through His abounding mercies we prospered. Even as a young child I was curious…I was the kid who was constantly jumping in mud puddles and examining every detail of the world around me, oh and WHY was my favorite question. My parents, bless them, were always willing to explain the answers to my questions or show me a way to discover the answers on my own, I believe this spurred my love for learning.
As I grew it became clear to me that teaching was my passion and that God had truly blessed me with many skills in that area. I have worked in childcare my entire life and so when it was time for me to pick a career the choice came easy. I graduated from New London-Spicer high school and began my higher education in a unique way. I completed a cooperative learning program between Ridgewater College and Southwest Minnesota State University which allowed me to obtain my Associates of Science in Early Childhood Education, my Associates of the Arts in Liberal Arts, and my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education with a Special Education minor. The unique nature of the program I completed allowed me to spend ample time in the classroom while completing my education. I have worked, observed, or shadowed in many of the childcare centers, preschools, and schools in our area and so have had the opportunity to see some of the best teaching practices showcased by many wonderful educators. Upon graduation I taught at another preschool in Willmar as a lead teacher for 5 years, as well as teaching for a year in first grade at one of our local elementary schools. The Lord has truly blessed me as I have always been able to serve in a Christian setting where I not only share my love for education, but also my love for Christ.
As a teacher, I tend to be a mix of traditional and student-led teaching methods. I understand and respect the need for teacher-directed instruction, but believe even more in the need for children to PLAY in their environment and learn through play. Knowing this, I set up my curriculum and classroom by providing meaningful opportunities and allowing my students to move through these activities in order to grow and learn at their own pace and in a way which best suits their individual learning style. Young children need to move, feel, smell, hear, taste (when appropriate ☺) and interact with their learning in order to make the connections they gain last and truly embed in their intellect. I strive to present opportunities for children to do this in my classroom every day.
The Lord has blessed my husband (Joey) and I with a child of our own (Kara, 2), as well as one more on the way (due in July) which has given me an even closer look at how children learn. These wonderful blessings He gives us are not to be taken lightly and through my own child I have come to realize ever more clearly how important it is to teach the whole child, academically, socially, emotionally, spiritually and physically. If even one piece is ignored we are not truly helping each child become all they were created to be.
I am so grateful for the opportunity to teach your WHOLE child, to meet them where they are and help them grow and fulfill the plan our heavenly Father has for them. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me, otherwise I hope to see you and your little blessing at Children’s Corner soon!
